Meet Andy,
the Potter behind Andypottery

Hello, and welcome to my corner of the world! My name is Andy Huynh, and I am a passionate potter living in the beautiful landscapes of New Zealand. Surrounded by lush forests, rolling hills, and the enchanting wildlife that this country offers, I have found endless inspiration for my craft. Pottery, for me, is not just an art—it is a way to connect with the earth, to create objects that bring joy and functionality to everyday life, and to share a piece of myself with each person who brings my work into their home.

I am originally from Vietnam. I have been living in New Zealand since 2015. I began my pottery journey from May 2025 after I found out that pottery can be made from home. It is not only about functional products but it is also about arts, lives and creation.

To me, pottery is a dance between intention and spontaneity. My process begins with an idea—a shape, a texture, a story I want to tell. I sketch out designs, experiment with clay bodies and glazes, and let inspiration guide my hands. There is a rhythm to working with clay: wedging, throwing, trimming, drying, firing, glazing, and finally, the last firing.

Throughout this process, I seek to integrate elements of nature and animals, either through subtle touches or bold statements. Sometimes it’s the curve of a handle reminiscent of a branch, or a glaze that recalls the feathers of a native bird. Other times, I sculpt small animal figures or emboss leaves and flowers onto the surface. I aim for harmony between function and beauty—pieces that enrich everyday routines and spark delight.
